Advanced internal combustion technology will continue to be a dominant part of the fuel and technology mix for decades to come. Diesel Power: Diesel Racers Seeking Performance Upgrades Should Look Beyond The Ordinary
The S&S Diesel Motor Sport Ford 6.7 CP4 to DCR Pump Conversion Kit featuring the PurePower 2P DCR pump was included in the August 2023 edition of PRI Magazine. S&S Diesel Motorsport in Seymour, Indiana, teamed with PurePower, a Stanadyne company, to produce a drop-in DCR pump conversion. “It is a more robust pump design,” said S&S Diesel’s Justin Norris. “We’ve been validating it for more than a year in 20-plus different trucks, trying to rack up as many miles as we can to make sure it’s spot-on.”

Column: GM’s new small-block V-8 is the best powertrain for pickups and SUVs
Until battery technology advances to the point where it can enable an electric truck to meet or beat the performance and price of a gasoline or diesel truck, don’t expect the gasoline or diesel engine to disappear. Still, with emissions rules tightening, GM’s new small-block engine will have to run cleaner and more efficiently. The automaker hasn’t shared any details of improvements, but key suppliers such as Stanadyne say there are still ways to make a gasoline engine develop more power while emitting fewer harmful emissions.

Stanadyne to present low-cost fuel systems at annual auto expo
Stanadyne presented new fuel systems offering a differentiated approach for the small engines to meet BS VI emissions at the Jan. 12-15 Auto Expo components show in New Delhi. Its Solenoid Controlled Unit Pump (SCUP) System was developed as a cost-effective solution for the three-wheeler applications that enables the manufacturers to meet India’s BS VI emission norms. The LPDMS system was developed for Tractor application & enables the manufacturers to meet India’s Trem IV – V emission norms. The system uses mechanical injectors resulting in a lower total cost of ownership (TCO).

Tension and the electric takeover
During the 2022 Detroit Auto Show, Stanadyne CEO Dr. John Pinson discussed decarbonization with SAE’s Editorial Director – Mobility Media Bill Visnic. “If in 2030 we’re in the 30% range [for EV sales in the U.S.], I think that would be a home run for this industry towards electrification,” said Pinson. “And I think it’s going to take everything the industry has got to get there. In the meantime, we have these overriding objectives to get carbon out of the transportation sector.”

Bradlee Stroia, chief technology officer for Stanadyne, further championed hydrogen’s potential as an effective solution for carbon-free ICE fueling. “It’s important to understand the benefits of hydrogen as an internal combustion fuel,” Stroia said. “It has challenges, but it can enable not just decarbonization but also world-class combustion efficiency.”
